We stock a good selection of hard and soft wood for joinery and cabinet making. Held in stock, cut and machined to your sizes.
A good selection of larch fencing materials always available and if you need specific or nonstandard sizes just ask.
We usually have large individual hardwood slabs and cookies in stock. All structural, fire-place & green oak can also be supplied, but this takes a little more time.
Boxes of offcuts, saw dust etc. are an ongoing by-product and normally in stock. Think ahead and get a deal on firewood in June.
Scottish trees grow in a harsh environment and as a result the timber is challenging to get the “normal and predictable” pieces the mass market demands.
The more interesting pieces that come from the local forests are far more rewarding to work with, better for the environment, interesting and usually with beautiful markings, colours and patterns.
Heavy, hard, interesting! We can provide this “green” for outside and structural use or kiln dried boards in varying thickness and width. As it is Scottish it is rarely perfect, but it is always lovely.
Warm, orangey / pinkish in colour and as it weathers it turns silvery grey. It will not need treated as it contains a large amount of natural resin. Painting or treating it can prove difficult. One can expect in the region of 20 years of sturdy outdoor service. It is ideal for fencing materials, posts, garden furniture etc.
Beautiful, strong Scottish grown fir. It is perfect for outside, untreated or painted. It is good for inside for beams instead of oak or for most joinery instead of Pine. Expect it last up to 20 years outside, untreated. We stock it as fencing material, decking etc. and kiln dried for internal use.
Pale with a dark hart. Exciting, interesting, and strong hard wood usually sold from our kiln dried stock in varying thicknesses, widths and lengths.
We came across beautiful bits of less ‘standard’ trees and have a small stock of interesting pieces lying around, just ask.
Both regularly available but only cut for larger orders. Traditional Scottish timbers for joinery and fencing though we don’t provide pressure treated Spruce.
Instead of using mass harvested wood shipped in from Europe or further, pumped full of chemicals.

A Family Run Business Based in Perthshire, Scotland.
Burty is the family dog along with Blue the lab; both enthusiastic, strong, and reliable.
We specialise in larger logs from older trees which, we think, should be treated with respect. Our trees would normally be disregarded for biomass chip or firewood by the timber industry.
Large amount of our wood comes from wind-blown and fallen trees where the economics don’t stack up for larger mills.
We focus on sustainability and finding the best use for every tree. Only limbs, rotten or damaged timber should go for firewood or biomass.
Whether wind fall from a garden or part of a managed forestry process, cutting, drying and building things from local trees is satisfying for all involved at every stage.
Our goal is to save as many trees as we can from going for fire wood. So if you’ve felled a small forest or just a few trees we aim to pay a higher price and come and pick out a few loads before it gets burnt!
Our preference is; inspect, make an offer and if accepted we cut to length on site to ensure the most appropriate sizes are achieved.
Please keep in mind, timber changes colour and shape as it is “worked”, as it did when growing. It is not wholly unpredictable but don’t be too upset when this happens. If in doubt or concerned about what might happen just ask. As a guide, the drier and more boring the board, the less likely you will have issues. Regardless, inside, it will get darker and change in appearance from the sun. Timber outside can easily crack, twist and significantly change colour during the seasons.
Kiln drying is essential if you are to use the wood inside. We stock hardwoods air dried at 18% moisture content. We will kiln dry down to 12% for internal use. This takes, typical, 4-6 wks so please consider when planning. Drying in advance and storing in an industrial building till sold will only return moisture to the wood so we try and avoid this.
We will usually supply pieces a little over length with the ends cut by chain saw during felling. We can crosscut at 90deg. to within 2mm+ or – at additional cost.
Everything is “off the saw”, cut in house. We can thickness / plane wood as required at an additional cost.
We can ship nationally so please ask for a price with your order.
Select table tops or work tops, specific interesting pieces, up to 1.5m wide in one piece. Alternatively, select book-matched pieces if you need something wider still.
Send us a cutting list in metric, on Excel, if possible or give us a call.
For a contract milling, bring your timber for us to cut, we charge by the cubic meter.
Re-sawing / ripping and planing can we requested if you have over 1m3 to machine?
We will sell round timber too. If you have a requirement, ask!
